LATE BRAMPTON GOAL SNAPS CYCLONES’ STREAK
Cincinnati Falls in Series Finale North of the Border
Brampton, ON-The Cincinnati Cyclones (12-6-1) fell to the Brampton Beast, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. Forwards Justin Danforth and Winston Day Chief netted the goals for Cincinnati, who see their five-game winning streak halted.
Cincinnati drew first blood 9:10 into the opening period when forward Jesse Schultz dug the puck out of the right corner and sent a pass to Danforth out in front, and he jammed it in past Brampton goaltender Zach Fucale to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.
That 1-0 lead held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second Brampton tied the game at the 8:16 mark while on the power play, when forward Brandon MacLean lit the lamp.
Cincinnati was not deterred and regained the lead late in the frame when defenseman Devante Stephens attempted a wrap-around but the puck went to Day Chief who slid it in after a few whacks at the puck, giving the Cyclones a 2-1 lead through two periods.
The Beast battled back and tied the game 5:01 into the third on a goal from forward Nathan Todd, and then with two minutes left and down 4-on-3 shorthanded, MacLean slipped in the game-winner despite being draped by a defender to give the Beast a 3-2 win.
Cincinnati outshot Brampton, 34-33 on the afternoon, with netminder Jonas Johansson stopping 30 in a losing effort. The Cyclones return home on Tuesday to take on the Orlando Solar Bears, in the first of six straight at U.S. Bank Arena. Face-off is slated for 7:35pm ET.
