Overview: The Cyclones continue their four-game road trip on Tuesday night in Indy, in he first of two-straight road games against the Fuel. Cincinnati fell 3-2 in overtime to the Ft. Wayne Komets on Saturday night, snapping their four-game winning streak. Despite the loss, the Cyclones still sit atop the ECHL Central Division standings with 28 points, and have picked up points in nine of their last 10 games (8-1-1-0).

Saturday Night Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (13-5-2-0) fell to the Ft. Wayne Komets, 3-2 in overtime, on Saturday night. Forwards Jesse Schultz and Justin Vaive tallied the goals for the Cyclones, who see their four-game winning streak snapped. Cincinnati was outshot 37-24 on the evening, with goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopping 34 in the loss.

Wednesday Night Recap:The Cincinnati Cyclones (13-5-1-0) eared a 4-2 win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Wednesday night, in front of 9,191 fans at Heritage Bank Center. Forward Jesse Schultz led the way with a pair of goals, while forwards Justin Vaive and Mason Mitchell each potted lone tallies for the Cyclones, who earn their fourth win in a row. The Cyclones outshot the Wings, 35-20, with goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopping 18 in the win. 

Last Saturday Night Recap:The Cincinnati Cyclones (12-5-1-0) collected a 3-2 win over the Indy Fuel on Saturday night. Forwards John Edwardh, Jesse Schultz, and Ben Johnson scored the goals for the Cyclones, who have now won seven of their last eight games. Cincinnati was outshot by Indy, 27-26, with goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen steering aside 23 in the win.

Previewing Indy: The Fuel have won two in a row and are coming off a 4-2 win over the Worcester Railers om Saturday night. Prior to their last two wins, Indy was winless in their previous seven games, and are currently sitting in fifth place in the ECHL’s Central Division. Defense and special teams are among the best areas for the Fuel, as they rank sixth in the League with 2.79 goals allowed per game, and are third on the penalty kill at 87.7% (50/57), and sixth in power play conversion percentage at 21.9% (16/73). Additionally, all eight of their wins have come when leading through two periods (8-1-0-0). They are led offensively by forward Spencer Watson who has accounted for 10 goals and 13 assists through 19 games this season. He is followed by forwards Alex Krushelnyski (5g, 10a) and Bobby MacIntyre (5g, 9a) who round out the top three. In goal, Chase Marchand leads the way with a 4-5-0-0 record, along with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. 

Inside the Series: Tuesday is the fifth of 11 meetings this season between the Cyclones and Fuel, and the first of two-straight against Indy. Cincinnati is 2-2-0-0 against the Fuel this season, and four of the next five meetings will be played in Indianapolis.

Familiar Foes: The Cyclones are in the middle of a stretch of 15 straight games against their Central Division foes. This season, the Cyclones will play 52 of their 72 games against the Central Division, and currently possess a record of 9-3-2-0 against their divisional rivals. 

We’re Going Streaking!: Cyclones forward Darik Angeli pushed his point streak to seven games with an assist in Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Ft. Wayne Komets, giving him three goals and seven assists on his current heater. Forward Ben Johnson has points in five straight (3g, 3a), after an assist in Saturday’s loss, while Jesse Schultz had a goal and an assist on Saturday to push his point streak to four games (4g, 4a). 

Sharing is Caring: The Cyclones have been getting major offensive contributions outside of their top line in recent games, as the Cyclones second and third lines have combined for 16 goals and 26 assists over the last seven games, including five goals and five assists in Friday’s 8-1 win over the Kalamazoo Wings. Leading the way in that time is Darik Angeli who has three goals and seven assists, followed by Mason Mitchell who has accounted for four goals and five assists. Forward John Wiitala (3g, 4a) and Cody Milan (2g, 5a) each have five points, and John Edwardh has been responsible for five points (3g, 2a).

Achievement Unlocked: Cyclones forward Jesse Schultz recorded his 900th professional point in Saturday’s 5-0 win over the Ft. Wayne Komets. Point 900 came on an assist on Ben Johnson’s second period goal, and he added a pair of goals and an additional helper as a part of a four-point night. Schultz is closing in on a few more career milestones as well, sitting just five games away from 1,000 pro games played, and 15 games away from 300 for his ECHL career. He currently sits at 354 goals and 553 assists across 995 games, in a career that has seen him spend time in North America in the ECHL, American Hockey League (AHL), and Central Hockey League (CHL), and he also skated in a pair of games for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also seen time overseas in Denmark, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, and Sweden.

Finding Their Stride: The trio of Justin Vaive, Darik Angeli, and Jesse Schultz have accounted for 25 goals and 28 assists over the last 15 games for the Cyclones. Schultz has points in 12 of his last 16 games (12g, 11a), and leads the team in scoring with 24 points on the season (13g, 11a). Additionally, Vaive has eight goals and four assists over his last 14 outings, while Angeli has points in nine of his last 10 games (4g, 8a). 

Holding the Lead: Cincinnati has an 11-1-0-0 mark when scoring the game’s first goal, and they are a perfect 10-0-0-0 when leading through two periods this season. They are the second-best defensive team in the ECHL, allowing 2.50 goals per game, and they lead the League with an average of 27.05 shots per 60 minutes.
