Cincinnati Perfect 7-for-7 on Penalty Kill in Loss
Cincinnati, OH- TheCincinnati Cyclones dropped a 3-1 decision to the Indy Fuel on Friday night, in the preseason opener for both teams. Brady Vail scored the lone goal for Cincinnati.
After a scoreless first 40 minutes which saw Cincinnati go a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, the Fuel struck 1:37 into the third period when forward Spencer Watson beat Cyclones goaltender Sean Romeo to give Indy a 1-0 lead. That lead became 2-0 2:02 later when forward Graham Knott beat Romeo off a deflection.
With a little more than five minutes remaining, Cincinnati got on the board when Vail took a pass from the defensive zone from defenseman Justin Baudryand snapped in a shot from the top of the right circle to cut the Fuel lead in half, 2-1.
The momentum was short-lived, however, as just 1:03 later, Indy regained their two-goal lead when forward Karl El-Mir lit the lamp to lift the Fuel to a 3-1 lead, and eventual win.
Cincinnati outshot the Fuel, 29-27, with Romeo steering aside 24 in defeat. The Cyclones and Fuel wrap up the preseason on Saturday night in Cincinnati. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
