CYCLONES EDGE NAILERS IN PRESEASON OPENER
Cincinnati Blueline Comes Up Big in Win
Wheeling, WV- The Cincinnati Cyclones took down the Wheeling Nailers, 2-1, in preseason action on Friday night. Defensemen Mitch Jonesand Anthony Florentinonetted the goals for Cincinnati, who have now won nine of the last fifteen preseason meetings between the two sides.
After an opening 10 minutes dominated by physicality, the Cyclones struck first 12:39 into the first when Jones fired a shot in through a screen from forward Judd Petersonto put Cincinnati ahead, 1-0, after 20 minutes.
Cincinnati added one more late in the second when forward Dominic Zombosent a pass to Florentino who blasted a one-timer in past Nailers goaltender Matt O’Connorto give the Cyclones a 2-0 lead after the second.
The Nailers pulled back to within a goal 7:03 into the third when forward Nick Saracinolit the lamp at the 7:03 mark of the frame to cut Cincinnati’s lead to 2-1. The physicality and hard hitting picked up again late in the frame, however Cyclones netminder Michael Houserstood tall to preserve Cincinnati’s 2-1 win.
The Cyclones outshot Wheeling, 26-22, with Houser and Hayden Stewartcombining to steer aside 21 in the win. The two teams wrap up the preseason on Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
