CYCLONES COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN TOLEDO
Three-Goal Second Period Too Much for Cincinnati to Overcome
Toledo, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (27-8-3-3) fell to the Toledo Walleye, 3-2, on Friday night. Forward Brady Vail and defenseman Anthony Florentino netted the goals for Cincinnati.
Cincinnati found the scoresheet first when forward Mike Marnell took a shot that was kicked out by Walleye goaltender Kaden Fulcher, however Vail was following up the play and banged in the rebound to put the Cyclones on top, 1-0, 8:14 into the opening period.
The 1-0 Cyclones lead held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second the Walleye offense came alive, tallying three goals from forwards Justin Kea, Tyler Spezia, and Dylan Sadowy to take a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes of play.
In the third, Cincinnati turned the tide offensively, outshooting the Walleye, 13-6 in the period. With 3:59 remaining, the ‘Clones pulled to within one when Florentino unleashed a bomb from the right point that beat Fulcher to pull Cincinnati to within one, 3-2.
The Cyclones received a few more quality chances, however were not able net the equalizer, and Toledo held on for the 3-2 win. The Walleye outshot the Cyclones, 31-26 on the evening, with goaltender Michael Houser stopping 28 in the loss. Cincinnati returns home next Friday to take on the Rapid City Rush. Face-off is slated for 7:35pm ET.
