Cincinnati Sees Five-Game Winning Streak Come to an End
Indianapolis, IN- The Cincinnati Cyclones (33-22-2-0) saw their five-game winning streak halted with a 5-2 loss to the Indy Fuel on Friday night. Defenseman Brock Beukeboom and forward Brandon McNally netted the goals for Cincinnati.
Cincinnati drew first blood in this one late in the first period, as Beukeboom launched a shot from the blue line in past Fuel netminder Matt Tomkins to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.
The Cyclones pushed their lead to a pair just 22 seconds into the second when McNally snapped a shot in from the slot to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead.
The momentum was short-lived however, as Indy netted four in a row from forwards Johnny McInnis, Matt Rupert, Matheson Iacopelli, and Alex Wideman to take a 4-2 lead after two periods. Iacopelli put it away in the final minutes of the third with an empty netter to seal Indy’s 5-2 win.
Indy outshot the Cyclones, 43-32, with goaltender Jonas Johansson stopping 38 in the loss. Cincinnati heads to Ft. Wayne on Saturday night to take on the Komets. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
