WHITNEY STARS IN CYCLONES ROAD WIN

Four Players Record Goals as Cincinnati Splits with Stingrays

North Charleston, SC- The Cincinnati Cyclones (15-11-2-2) collected a 4-2 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday afternoon. Forwards Zach Budish, Nick Huard and Andrew Yogan, and defenseman Cody Carlson scored the goals for the Cyclones, who snap their brief two-game road-losing streak.

The Cyclones drew first blood late in the first, when Budish took the puck in the right corner and threw a shot from a sharp angle that wound up in the net, putting Cincinnati up, 1-0, through 20 minutes.

After South Carolina tied the game, 1-1, on a power play goal from forward Colin Mulvey, the Cyclones found the back of the net again, when a point shot from defenseman Riley Weselowski was tipped by Huard into the net at the 18:48 mark, giving Cincinnati a 2-1 lead after the second period.

The Cyclones received the all-important insurance goal at the 14:03 mark of the third, when Yogan skated in on a shorthanded breakaway and slid the puck past Stingrays netminder Branden Komm, putting Cincinnati ahead, 3-1.

The Stingrays continued to battle, and netted an extra-attacker marker from Mulvey, cutting Cincinnati’s lead to 3-2 with under a minute left.

That was all the offense South Carolina was able to muster, as an empty-netter from Carlson off of the ensuing faceoff from the red line sealed the 4-2 win for Cincinnati.

Cyclones goaltender Brandon Whitney was stellar in goal, coming up with a number of spectacular saves, including a stop on a 2-on-0 shorthanded breakaway in the second period. Overall, he stopped 43 of the 45 shots he faced, earning his sixth win as a Cyclone.

The Cyclones were out shot, 43-27, while the power play was held scoreless on all three chances, Cincinnati’s road trip continues on Wednesday in Atlanta against the Gladiators. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05pm ET.
