CYCLONES DROP HEARTBREAKER IN NORFOLK

Cincinnati Gets Majority of the Chances Late

Norfolk, VA- The Cincinnati Cyclones (15-13-2-2) fell to the Norfolk Admirals, 3-1, on Friday night. Forward Andrew Yogan scored the lone goal for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones wasted little time getting on the board, as just 3:41 into the opening period, defenseman Steve Weinstein sent a pass to Yogan who skated in on a 2-on-1 rush and snapped a wrister past Admirals netminder Nic Riopel, putting Cincinnati up, 1-0.

That 1-0 Cyclones lead held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second, the Cyclones continued to pressure Norfolk offensively, however a late second period goal from Admirals forward Devin Mantha tied the game, 1-1, heading into the third period.

In the third, the Cyclones dominated the Admirals in quality scoring chances, and netminder Brandon Whitney came up with some big saves to preserve the 1-1 tie. Despite the early period success, the Admirals took a 2-1 lead while on the power play, when a shot from forward Scott Allen bounced off of Whitney’s glove into the net, 9:12 into the third.

Cincinnati continued to get the majority of the offensive opportunities, however an empty netter from Norfolk forward Alex Ranger sealed the 3-1 win for the Admirals.

Whitney had a solid night in goal, stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced. The Cyclones were outshot, 31-24 on the night, while the power play was held scoreless on all four chances. Cincinnati wraps up their five-game road trip tomorrow night against the Admirals. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:15pm ET.
