CYCLONES FALL IN WEEKEND OPENER TO FT. WAYNE
Cincinnati’s Two-Game Winning Streak Snapped
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (17-16-3-2) fell to the Ft. Wayne Komets, 5-1, on Friday night. Forward Joe Wilson scored the lone goal for the Cyclones.
After the Komets took a 1-0 lead after the first on a shorthanded goal from defenseman Justin Hamonic, Ft. Wayne turned up the offense in the second, getting goals from defenseman Will Weber, and forwards Joe Perry and Brett Perlini to skate out to a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Despite the three goals allowed in the second, Cyclones netminder Andy Iles made a number of big, highlight reel saves to keep Cincinnati within striking distance.
The Komets tacked on one more from Perlini in the third to take a 5-0 lead, however the Cyclones were determined to bust the shutout, as with under five minutes left in the third, forward Seth Ambroz took a shot that was initially saved by Komets netminder Pat Nagle, however Wilson was following up the play and fired home the rebound, cutting Cincinnati’s deficit to four goals, 5-1.
That was all the offense the Cyclones were able to muster, as Nagle went on to stop 17-of-18 shots to earn the 5-1 win for the Komets. Iles turned aside 28 of the 33 shots he faced in the loss for the Cyclones, who were outshot, 33-18, on the night.
The two sides wrap up their weekend series on Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Faceoff is slated for 7:35pm ET.
