CYCLONES CONTROL PLAY THROUGHOUT, FALL IN OVERTIME

Cincinnati Gets the Bulk of Chances

Kalamazoo, MI- The Cincinnati Cyclones (7-2-1-1) dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night. Forward Branden Gracel scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, who tied the game with 40 seconds left in regulation.

The Cyclones came out firing in the opening period, getting the majority of the scoring chances. Despite the quality chances early on, Cincinnati found themselves down, 1-0 after the first, on a 5-on-3 power play goal from Kalamazoo’s Cory Pritz.

The second was just like the first, filled with a plethora of quality scoring chances for the Cyclones. Cincinnati also enjoyed four power play opportunities, however they could not find the back of the net, and Kalamazoo took their 1-0 lead into the third period.

In the third, Cincinnati continued to pepper Kalamazoo netminder Joel Martin with shots, and still controlled the flow of play. The Cyclones’ hard work finally paid off with 40 seconds left, when forward Nick Huard found Gracel out front and he jammed it into the net, tying the game, 1-1, and forcing overtime.

The extra session was short lived, as just 31 seconds in, Kalamazoo forward Justin Taylor scored to lift the Wings to the 2-1 win.  The Cyclones outshot Kalamazoo, 38-26, on the night, while goaltender Neil Conway looked solid in his Cyclones debut, stopping 25 of the 26 shots he faced. The power play was 0-for-6 on the evening.

Cincinnati returns home for a Tuesday morning school day affair with the Alaska Aces. Faceoff is scheduled for 10:30am ET.
