Gladiators Blank Cyclones, 2-0

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Jonathan Parker scored twice while Goaltender Ryan Zapolski turned aside all 21 shots he faced as the Gwinnett Gladiators (30-14-7-4) shutout the Cincinnati Cyclones (24-19-1-7) by a 2-0 final score in front of 2,310 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.

Gwinnett rookie Jonathan Parker opened the scoring at 11:16 as he sent a high wrist shot over the right shoulder of Cyclones goalie Brian Foster (W, 26 saves, 10-4-0-1) to make it 1-0 Gladiators at the first intermission.

The Gladiators extended their lead to 2-0 at 11:27 of the middle stanza as Parker sniped his second goal of the night over Foster. And despite having a trio of power plays in the second period, the Cyclones trailed by two after 40 minutes.

The Cyclones had their best scoring chances in the third period, sending 11 shots on Gladiators goaltender Ryan Zapolski (W, 21 saves, 4-1-0-1). However, the rookie backstop kept Cincinnati off the scoreboard to preserve his first professional shutout. It was just the second time this season that Cincinnati was blanked by an opponent.
