Mathieu Aubin Returns to Cyclones in 2011-12
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have agreed to terms with forward Mathieu Aubin for the 2011-12 season.
Aubin, a Montreal Canadiens 2005 fifth-round draft pick, will be back in the Queen City for the fifth time in his career. He has logged games for the Cyclones in four of the previous five seasons, including two Kelly Cup Championship playoff runs (2008, 2010) along the way. Last season, the six-foot-three inch, 204-pound forward led the Cyclones in points (51), and multi-point games (12) while finishing second on the team with 19 goals. A Sorel, Quebec native, Aubin enjoyed his second-most productive season offensively in 2010-11 and posted a career high nine-game point-scoring streak from October 16, 2010-November 6, 2010.
“I think it says a lot about Mathieu as an individual that Cincinnati is the place he wants to play,” said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. “He’s very proud of this organization and the accomplishments he has made while with the Cyclones. He’s a quality person and a great teammate in addition to being an integral part of our offense.”
Aubin has also made his mark on the Cyclones franchise record books; coming into 2011-12, he currently ranks third on the All-Time Career Points list (151) – trailing Sheldon Gorski (213) and Barret Ehgoetz (289). Not surprisingly, he is also towards the top of the Career Goals and Career Assists categories as well – ranking third in both (62 goals, 89 assists). He is one of just three Cyclones players to be a part of both Kelly Cup Championship teams (Barret Ehgoetz and Scott Reynolds are the other two).
