Cyclones Add Balinson to Defense

The Cyclones have signed defenseman Max Balinson to an Amateur Tryout (ATO) Contract. Balinson will join the team immediately and be available for this weekend's games against Fort Wayne and Indy.

In related news, Cyclones Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Payne announced that forward Liam MacDougall's ATO has been upgraded to a Standard Player Contract. MacDougall scored his first professional goal last Saturday against the Fuel and is +1 through three games. The Cyclones have also released forwards Bair Gendunov and Mike Gornall.

  • Balinson signs his first professional contract following his second season at Long Island University, serving as the team's alternate captain.  
  • Skated in 17 games this season with LIU, scoring four goals and eight points. Collected a goal and four assists in 11 games with the Sharks during his first season with the university after transferring out of Arizona State.   
  • Played in 41 games with the Sun Devils from 2017-19. 
  • Spent majority of his junior career in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), playing for the Ancaster Avalanche. Balinson totaled 90 points in 131 career GOJHL games across three seasons, before jumping to the Burlington Cougars in the OJHL during his final year of eligibility. Was coached by Cyclones Assistant Coach Alex Bezerra while with Burlington.
