CYCLONES FALL IN WANING SECONDS TO MAVERICKS

Cincinnati Loses on Home Ice for Just Second Time in Regulation

 

Cincinnati, OH TheCincinnati Cyclones (19-7-4-0) fell to the Kansas City Mavericks, 3-2, on Friday night. Forwards Shaw Boomhower and Brady Vail scored the goals for the Cyclones, who see their pointstreak snapped at seven games. 

After the Mavericks took a 1-0 lead 2:45 into the opening frame on a goal from forward Rocco Carzo, Cincinnati tied the game a little more than two minutes later when Boomhower came down the left side and snapped a shot in past Mavericks goaltender Tyler Parsons to pull the ‘Clones even, 1-1. 

The 1-1 score held up throughout the first and the entirety of the second, in which Cincinnati outshot Kansas City, 16-5 in the frame. In the third the Mavericks took their first lead of the game 4:46 into the frame when forward Ryan Van Stralen scored to put the Mavericks up, 2-1.

The Cyclones were not deterred and re-tied the game 11:30 into the period while on the power play when Vail took a pass from defenseman Justin Baudry following a face-off win and he hammered home a shot from the top of the left circle to pull Cincinnati back even, 2-2.

With 19 seconds left in the period, Kansas City struck again for the game-winner when forward Mitch Hults capitalized off a turnover and scored to lift the Mavericks to a 3-2 win. 

Cincinnati outshot the Mavericks, 36-18, with goaltender Michael Houser steering aside 15 in the loss. The Cyclones head to Toledo on Sunday night to take on the Walleye, with the face-off slated for 7:15pm ET.
