CYCLONES SURVIVE LATE PUSH TO DOUBLE UP RUSH

Cincinnati Victorious in Opener of Two-Game Weekend

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (28-8-3-3) slowed down the Rapid City Rush, 6-3, on Saturday night. Forward Myles Powell led the way with a pair of goals, while forwards Jesse SchultzAlex Wideman, and Ben Johnson, along with defenseman Arvin Atwal each lit the lamp once for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones took the lead just 1:15 into the opening period when Powell tipped a shot from Schultz to put Cincinnati ahead, 1-0, and snapping an 0-for-19 streak on the power play.

Cincinnati’s 1-0 lead held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second they tacked on one more when Atwal blasted a shot from the right point in past Rush netminder Adam Carlson to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

In the third Cincinnati continued to shine early and extended their lead to 3-0 when Powell sent a pass to Schultz and he found the back of the net just 1:53 into the frame. Roughly eight minutes later, Powell returned the favor when he fed Schultz on the back door and he tapped it in to give Cincinnati a 4-0 lead.

The Rush mounted a furious comeback attempt, as forward Darby Llewellyn netted a pair of goals sandwiched around a tally from defenseman Riley Weselowski to trim their deficit to 4-3 with 4:16 remaining in regulation.

The Cyclones kept their composure and added an empty-netter Wideman with 1:42 to play in regulation to regain their two-goal lead, 5-3. Cincinnati capped off the night, with 51 seconds to play when Johnson fired a shot off the post and in to seal the 6-3 Cyclones win.

Cincinnati outshot the Rush, 44-22 on the evening, with goaltender Michael Houser stopping 19 in the win. The Cyclones wrap up their brief two-game homestand on Saturday night against the Tulsa Oilers. Face-off is slated for 7:35pm ET.
