CYCLONES DERAIL RAILERS IN ROAD TRIP FINALE
Cincinnati Survives Comeback to Win in Overtime
Worcester, MA- The Cincinnati Cyclones (32-9-3-3) upended the Worcester Railers, 4-3 in overtime, on Sunday afternoon. Forwards Vas Glotov and Myles Powell, along with defenseman Mitch Jones recorded the goals in regulation while forward Brady Vail tallied the game-winner in overtime for the Cyclones, who finish their four-game road trip 3-1-0-0.
Cincinnati wasted little time finding the back of the net, as just 1:54 in Glotov came racing down the right wing, cut in front of the net and scored to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Cincinnati pushed their lead to 2-0 when Powell finished off a play after forward Jesse Schultz dug the puck off the wall, fed Alex Wideman in the right circle, and he dished it to Powell for his 19thgoal of the season.
Cincinnati took their 2-0 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes, and in the second the Cyclones added another 6:50 in when forward Pascal Aquin slid a pass to Jones who was crashing the net, and he slammed the puck in past Worcester goaltender Evan Buitenhuis to extend Cincinnati’s lead to 3-0.
The Railers started to chip away and pulled to within a pair after the second, 3-1, when forward Ryan Hitchcock lit the lamp at the 15:39 mark, and in the third Worcester completed the comeback when forwards Tyler Barnes and Nick Sorkin each found the back of the net to tie the game, 3-3, and ultimately force overtime.
In the extra session, Cincinnati and Worcester each traded quality scoring chances early on. At the 2:39 mark of overtime defenseman Arvin Atwal entered the offensive zone on the left side and sent a pass to Vail in the high slot, and he hammered a shot off the crossbar and in to give the Cyclones a 4-3 overtime win.
Cincinnati outshot the Railers, 34-24 on the afternoon, with goaltender Jonas Johansson steering aside 21 in the win. The Cyclones return home on Wednesday night to battle the Indy Fuel. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05pm ET.
