CAKE EATERS PREVAIL ON MIGHTY DUCKS ANNIVERSARY
Cincinnati Cannot Overcome Ft. Wayne Offensive Attack
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (22-16-2-0) fell to the Ft. Wayne Komets, 5-2, on Saturday night. Forwards Alex Kile and Daniel Muzito-Bagenda netted the goals for Cincinnati, who tonight celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first Mighty Ducks movie.
Cincinnati drew first blood in this one just 5:56 into the opening period, when a shot from defenseman Chris Leone skimmed off of a body in front right to Kile, and he slammed it in to give the ‘Clones a 1-0 lead with his second goal in as many games.
The Cyclones held onto their 1-0 lead throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second Ft. Wayne wasted little time stealing the momentum, as they received a pair of goals from forwards Marc-Oliver Roy and Logan Nelson to give the Komets a 2-1 advantage.
The physicality picked up in the second as well, as the teams combined for 37 penalty minutes in the frame. No more goals were scored in the second, resulting in the Komets taking their 2-1 lead in to the locker room.
Ft. Wayne continued their forward motion in the third, getting two more goals from defenseman Ryan Lowney and forward Gabriel Desjardins to puck their advantage to 4-1, 11:05 into the period.
Cincinnati would not go quietly, as with roughly two and a half minutes left while on the power play and with the goaltender pulled, Muzito-Bagenda took a pass from forward Dominic Zombo and rifled a shot in from the right circle to pull Cincinnati to back within a goal, 4-2.
The momentum was short lived, as with 1:19 remaining, Komets forward Jamie Schaafsma buried an empty netter to seal Ft. Wayne’s 5-2 win.
The Cyclones outshot Ft. Wayne, 31-30 on the evening, with goaltender Jason Kasdorf stopping 26 in the loss. The Cyclones conclude their three-game weekend on Sunday afternoon in Toledo against the Walleye. Face-off is scheduled for 5:15pm ET.
