The Two Teams Meet Again Wednesday
Kalamazoo, MI- The Cincinnati Cyclones (1-2-1-0) fell to the Kalamazoo Wings, 5-3 on Saturday night. Defenseman Mitch Nylen, along with forwards Shawn O’Donnell and Justin Danforth netted the goals for the Cyclones.
After the Wings took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal from forward Danny Moynihan, the Cyclones responded midway through the first when defenseman Arvin Atwal sent a feed to Nylen who launched a shot from the left point and in, tying the game, 1-1.
Just 48 seconds later the Cyclones struck again, this time on the power play, when O’Donnell blasted in a one-timer off of a pass from defenseman Eric Knodel to give Cincinnati the lead, 2-1.
The Cyclones took their 2-1 lead into the locker room after the first, and in the second the Wings tied the game 1:11 in on a tally from forward Tyler Biggs. Kalamazoo took their first lead of the night roughly seven minutes later when Moynihan tallied his second of the night to put his side up, 3-2.
Cincinnati was not deterred and evened the game up at 3-3 just after the midway mark of the period, as Danforth took an O’Donnell pass and launched one between the legs of Wings netminder Michael Garteig.
Kalamazoo’s power play struck once more a couple minutes later when Biggs lit the lamp for the second time in the period, giving the Wings a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes.
The Wings put the game out of reach early in the third when forward Josh Pitt found the back of the net to put Kalamazoo up, 5-3. The Cyclones got some good looks offensively throughout the remainder of the third however could not get the two they needed, and Kalamazoo held on for a 5-3 win.
