CYCLONES DROP SEASON FINALE DESPITE VALLIANT EFFORT

Cincinnati Ends Season with Points in 11 of Final 15 Games

 

Charleston, SC- The Cincinnati Cyclones (36-29-6-1) fell to the South Carolina Stingrays, 4-3 in overtime, on Saturday night. Forwards Nick Huard, Seth Ambroz, and Shawn O’Donnell scored the goals in regulation for Cincinnati.

After the Stingrays jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the opening period on goals from forwards Rob Flick and Dominic Monardo, the Cyclones turned up the offense and cut the lead in half 7:33 into the frame when Huard snapped a shot from the right circle and in, cutting their deficit to 2-1.

Cincinnati was not finished as just 1:42 later, forward Dominic Zombo sent a pass to Ambroz while being draped by a pair of defenders, and he fired a shot in past South Carolina netminder Adam Carlson to tie the game, 2-2.

That 2-2 score held up throughout the remainder of the second period, and in the third, Cincinnati took the lead when Huard forced a turnover behind the net and sent a pass to O’Donnell out front and he flicked it in past Carlson to put the Cyclones ahead, 3-2.

The that lead was short-lived, as roughly five minutes later the Stingrays tied the game when forward Joe Devin crashed the net and scored on the power play, bringing South Carolina back even with Cincinnati, 3-3.

Both sides continued to get quality scoring chances however could not break the tie, and for the second-straight night the Cyclones headed to overtime. In the extra session, Cincinnati had a few good looks at the game-winner, however Flick’s second of the game sent the Cyclones to a 4-3 overtime loss.

The Cyclones were outshot, 29-27 on the night, with goaltender Mark Visentin stopping 25 in defeat.
