CYCLONES TAKE DOWN LEAGUE LEADERS
Cincinnati Ends Toledo’s Streak in February Finale
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (29-25-4-0) took down the Toledo Walleye, 3-2, on Tuesday night. Forwards Dominic Zombo, Justin MacDonald, and Shawn O’Donnell tallied the goals for the Cyclones, who snapped Toledo’s seven-game winning streak.
Cincinnati jumped out to a 1-0 midway through the opening period, when forward Jordan Sims sent a pass to Zombo and he poked it past Walleye netminder Jake Paterson for his 11th goal of the season.
Toledo answered back late in the frame when forward Evan Rankin lit the lamp from the slot to tie the game, 1-1, through 20 minutes.
Cincinnati wasted little time regaining the lead in the second, as just 2:53 in defenseman Jaynen Rissling took a point shot through traffic that ultimately found MacDonald who deflected it in to put the Cyclones ahead, 2-1.
Like the first, Toledo tied the game back up late in the frame when defenseman Simon Denis found the back of the net to pull the Walleye even with Cincinnati, 2-2, after the second.
The Walleye had the bulk of the chances in the opening 10 minutes of the third, however Cincinnati pulled ahead just past the midway part of the frame while on the power play, when O’Donnell took a pass from forward Nick Huard and cut in front of the net and tucked it past Paterson to put the Cyclones ahead, 3-2.
Toledo continued to pressure the Cyclones offensively in the final 10 minutes of the game, however Cincinnati goaltender Michael Houser did not waver, and preserved the 3-2 win.
The Cyclones were outshot, 28-20 on the night, with Houser stopping 26 in the win. The Cyclones continue their three-game homestand on Thursday night against the Adirondack Thunder. Face-off is slated for 7:35pm ET.
