CYCLONES STRONG DEFENSIVELY, FALL TO DEFENDING CHAMPS
Cincinnati Sees Two-Goal Lead Slip in loss
Allen, TX- Cincinnati Cyclones (15-15-3-2) fell to the Allen Americans, 3-2, on Saturday night. Forwards Andrew Yogan and Jack Downing scored the goals for the Cyclones.
Cincinnati jumped ahead early in this one, as just 60 seconds into the opening frame, defenseman Garrett Noonan launched a shot that bounced off of the end boards right to Yogan who buried the rebound, putting the Cyclones ahead, 1-0.
That lead became 2-0 roughly 10 minutes later while on the power play, when Downing hammered home a Noonan one-time pass, for his 17th goal of the season.
The Americans found their way onto the scoresheet not long after, when forward Nolan Descoteaux scored his first of the season, cutting the Cyclones’ lead to 2-1 after 20 minutes.
In the second, the Americans were the beneficiaries of a pair of lucky bounces, on goals from forwards Chris Crane on the power play, and Justin Courtnall, putting Allen ahead, 3-2, after two periods.
Cincinnati applied the pressure offensively in the third, getting a number of good chances late with the goalie pulled, however they could not get the equalizer, and Allen held on for a 3-2 win.
The Cyclones outshot the Americans, 27-15, while the power play converted on one of six chances. The three-game series continues on Sunday afternoon at 5:05pm ET.
