CYCLONES DROP 5-2 DECISION TO ATLANTA
Cincinnati Stumbles in Third Game of Five-Game Trip
Duluth, GA- The Cincinnati Cyclones (15-12-2-2) fell to the Atlanta Gladiators, 5-2, on Wednesday night. Forward Joe Wilson and defenseman Cody Carlson scored the goals for Cincinnati.
After the Gladiators took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals from forwards Mike Merrifield, and Brock Higgs on the power play, Atlanta continued to find the back of the net in the second, receiving a power play tally from forward Derek Nesbit, and even strength goals from Justin Buzzeo and JT Barnett, skating out to a 5-0 lead, 12:36 into the second.
The Cyclones found the back of the net shortly thereafter, when Wilson skated in on a breakaway and fired a shot that was kicked out by Atlanta goaltender Matt Ginn, but he was able to bury his rebound, cutting Cincinnati’s deficit to 5-1 after 40 minutes.
Cincinnati had a number of close calls in the third, and with under 50 seconds left, forward Andrew Yogan sent a pass to Carlson, and he blasted home a one-timer, pulling the Cyclones to within three goals, 5-2.
That was all the offense Cincinnati was able to muster, and the Cyclones fell, 5-2. The Cyclones outshot Atlanta, 37-33, while the power play was held scoreless on all four chances. The Cyclones continue their road trip on Friday night in Norfolk against the Admirals. Faceoff is slated for 7:30pm ET.
