CYCLONES BANK NIGHT
Tonight's Matchup: After wrapping up another road trip, the Cyclones are back on the home ice tonight as they welcome in the South Carolina Stingrays to U.S. Bank Arena. The ‘Rays rallied to defeat Cincinnati last Saturday in Charleston to extend their ECHL-record winning streak again.
Scouting the Stingrays: Spencer Carbery’s club captured their 21st straight victory over the weekend and sit just three points back of the Reading Royals for second in the East Division. Brandon Wong remains atop the Stingrays’ scoring leaderboard with 50 points (19g, 31a) in 61 games this year. Wayne Simpson has also been a consistent offensive threat, posting 48 tallies (15g, 33a) in 59 contests. While he failed to earn his fifth straight shutout, Jeff Jakaitis earned another win in net for South Carolina on Saturday. On the season overall, he has gone 22-7-1-1 with a 1.96 goals-against average. Fellow net minder Adam Morrison is currently atop the ECHL with a 1.88 GAA and has gone 15-5-0-2.
Last Time Out: The ECHL’s longest winning streak was extended again as the Stingrays rallied past the Cyclones by a 5-4 final score in front of 5,326 at North Charleston Coliseum. It was the Stingrays’ 21st consecutive victory. Rookie Nick Huard enjoyed a multi-point game (1g, 1a) for his first pro tallies.
Right “Down” to Business: Cyclones forward Jack Downing has been off to an impressive start to his career in the Queen City. The fourth-year pro has collected points in four of his six games since being acquired from Missouri including a hat trick and a game-winning goal.
Reinforcement from Above: Earlier this week, the Cyclones received talented defenseman MacKenzie Weegar from the San Antonio Rampage. This season at the Triple-A level, he has earned 10 points (2g, 8a) in 30 games while amassing six points (1g, 5a) in 11 ECHL games for the Cyclones.
