Jackals Rally to Beat Cyclones, 4-2
CINCINNATI, Ohio – A three-goal third period sparked a rally for the Elmira Jackals (22-16-0-5), who came back to defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones (19-16-0-4) by a 4-2 final score in front of 2,672 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
After a scoreless opening stanza, the Cyclones got on the board first at the 6:49 mark of the 2nd period when Josh Shalla slammed a rebound past goaltender Travis Fullerton (W, 22 saves, 14-5-0-4) to make it 1-0. However, just 22 seconds later, the Jackals responded with a goal from Taylor Stefishen to knot things at one as he beat Sam Brittain (L, 30 saves, 11-8-0-1) through the legs with a shot. Cincinnati would find the break-even tally on the power play at 11:28, when a slap shot from Josh McFadden careened off of bodies in front and right to Geoff Irwin, who directed home his 11th goal of the season. Irwin's tally gave the Cyclones a 2-1 edge after 40 minutes.
Right out of the gate in the final period, the Jackals pulled even using the power play; Lucas Bloodoff corralled a puck and fired it past Brittain just 47 seconds in. Then, at 8:08, Mike Seidel camped out at the top of the goal crease, received a pass out of the corner from Allan McPherson, and deposited his 10th goal of the year, giving the Jackals their first lead of the night at 3-2. In the final minute, the Cyclones pulled Brittain in an attempt to rally with the extra attacker, however, Bloodoff and Seidel combined for an empty net goal at 19:40 to cap off a 4-2 comeback win for Elmira.
