THIS PAST WEEK:
About Sunday Afternoon in Trenton: One night after earning his first pro shutout, goaltender Michael Houser collected his first pro shootout win as he denied all four shooters to give the Cyclones a 4-3 win over the Titans in front of 4,137 at Sun National Bank Center.
About Saturday Night in Trenton: Goaltender Michael Houser made 33 saves and Garrett Wilson scored twice as the Cyclones shutout the Titans by a 4-0 final score in front of 4,788 at Sun National Bank Center. It was the first pro blanking for Houser and the third for Cincinnati this season.
About Friday Night in Reading: The Royals raced out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Cyclones by a 4-1 final score in front of 3,841 at Sovereign Center. David Pacan potted the lone Cincinnati goal in shorthanded fashion. Brian Foster made 32 saves in a losing effort.
About Tuesday Night vs. Elmira: Louie Caporusso had a pair of goals as the Jackals defeated the Cyclones by a 3-1 final score in front of 2,042 at U.S. Bank Arena. Mike Embach scored the lone goal in the contest for Cincinnati as the teams concluded their four-game season series.
SHOTS FROM THE POINT:
A Much Needed Break: After playing 11 games in the first 20 days of January, the Cyclones will enjoy a few days off for the 2013 All-Star Break. After the three-day reprieve, they’ll get right back to action to kick off another three-game weekend. On Friday, Cincinnati welcomes the Evansville IceMen to U.S. Bank Arena on President Obama Bobblehead Night followed by a Saturday meeting with the Kalamazoo Wings. The Clones will wrap up the weekend on the road with a Sunday tilt against the Wheeling Nailers.
Wonderful Willie: Cyclones forward Garrett Wilson enjoyed a record setting weekend. The rookie surpassed last year’s goal totals and now owns 18 on the season. Plus, with his “first goal” on Saturday, he tied Matt Pierce for the Club’s single season record. In 2012-13, Wilson has eight such goals - which leads the league.
A Half to Remember: As the Cyclones are at the All-Star Break, they have accumulated one of their best first half records in club history. Their 24 wins are the most at the All-Star Break since the 2009-10 season when they had a 24-14-1 mark…and the second most since the Cyclones returned to ECHL play in 2006.
Another Alum in the NHL: This past weekend, Cyclones alumnus Cory Conacher became the tenth former Cyclones to make his NHL debut. On Saturday, he earned a goal and an assist in a 6-3 win for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Conacher played in three games with the Cyclones late in the 2010-11 season, posting seven points in that short span.
Coors Light Jarrod Skalde Show Returns NEXT MONDAY, January 28: With the All-Star Break going on, there will not be a show tonight. Be sure to join us next Monday, January 28 from 7-8pm at the Tap House Grill for another week of hockey conversation with Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde and Voice of the Cyclones Nick Brunker.
